The story of Aeolian migration began in the late 19th century, when the phylloxera epidemic devastated local vineyards and forced many families to seek new opportunities overseas.
Later, after the Second World War, new waves of emigration continued toward Australia, the Americas, and beyond.
Today, vibrant Aeolian communities can be found in every corner of the world — from Melbourne to New York, from Buenos Aires to Toronto.

A Living Heritage
To preserve this memory, the Aeolian Museum of Emigration in Malfa, Salina — created by the International Research Center for Aeolian History and Culture (C.I.R.C.E.) — collects letters, photographs, and stories that tell of departures, hope, and new beginnings.
This museum is a living testament to the courage of those who left, and a place where their descendants can rediscover their roots.
